Marion GerdesHead of Human Resources | CEWE Stiftung & Co. KGaA
Marion Gerdes, head of human resources at CEWE Stiftung & Co. in Oldenburg is from the Hunsrück region of south-west Germany and has worked in the Northwest for several years.
What brought you to the Northwest initially?
It was love... I met my partner seven years ago. He was born in Berne in Lower Saxony and has his own business there. He has three children from his first marriage. After two years in a long distance relationship, splitting our weekends between Berne and Dortmund, it was clear that we didn't want to be in a long distance relationship and that we wanted to live together. As a single person without any 'baggage' it was easier for me to move, both in geographically and professionally, and so I took the next step and moved in with him in Berne.
Living and working in the Northwest: what is the attraction for you?
I am a town and country sort of person: that means I like to live in the peaceful, green countryside but need to be near to cities like Oldenburg and Bremen. Both are 30 or 40 kilometers away and are therefore within reach so that I can get to them quickly.
What gives the region its unmistakable character?
The vast expanses, the North Sea, the River Weser, the wealth of traditions and the openness of the people.
Have you ever missed home?
I've missed the warmer temperatures, yes ;-)
